What is Biorelevant Media (FaSSIF + FeSSIF)?
The use of Fasted State (FaSSIF) and Fed State (FeSSIF) simulated intestinal fluid has grown steadily since its conception by Professor Jennifer Dressman in 1998 (1). These Biorelevant Media help you to understand the solubility of drugs in the upper part of the gut where absorption of most drugs takes place. FaSSIF and FeSSIF contain mixed micelles comprising of bile salts (Taurocholate) and phospholipids (Lecithin) in a molar ratio of 4 to 1, along with buffers and osmotic adjusters.
Preparing FaSSIF + FeSSIF
Conventional methods of preparing FaSSIF and FeSSIF can be frustratingly difficult because they:
-are time consuming
-require multiple ingredients
-may need a toxic solvent
-can yield variable media
-can be tough to produce large volumes with
-can be hard to replicate across different sites
Well the good news is that Phares has taken all the hard work out of FaSSIF and FeSSIF production for you! Phares SIF Powder is a blend of Taurocholate and Lecithin based on Professor Jennifer Dressman’s original formulation. All you need to do is add the powder to a buffer for highly reproducible FaSSIF or FeSSIF every time!
Product Benefits
This product offers you so many different commercial as well as technical benefits:
*Easy To Use*
- Prepare either FaSSIF or FeSSIF from the same powder
- Freshly produce any volume of this biorelevant media in just minutes whether very small or very large
- No need for complex planning; just prepare the Biorelevant Media as and when you need it, so there’s no need for either sterilization or storage
*High Quality*
- SIF Powder is produced from the highest quality excipients from top suppliers of Sodium Taurocholate and Lecithin. Only well controlled high purity ingredients conforming to strict specifications are used
- Every batch is produced using standardized production protocol in a controlled production environment using validated equipment documented with a batch manufacturing record
- Every bottle of SIF Powder is Quality Controlled, assured prior to release and shipped with a Certificate of Analysis
- Continuous Product Care- each bottle contains a desiccant sachet which has been verified to absorb moisture. Storage of each bottle is carefully controlled
*Standardized*
- Standardized production and preparation protocols eliminate variability so you can be assured of producing the same Biorelevant Media across different sites
- SIF Powder gives consistent particle size for FaSSIF and FeSSIF every time
- The product can be shipped globally via courier to multiple sites

Happy Customers
“I found the SIF powder very easy to work with, and if there is no solubility issue with the drug, it works great and it's comparable to the conventional FaSSIF/FeSSIF media with egg lecithin which are too expensive and hard to work with.” Watson Laboratories, USA
“Phares SIF Powder is much easier to use, that’s why we order it.” Acino Pharma, Switzerland
"Quick to produce, saves time, consistent quality." Nycomed, Germany
“We would consider the reproducibility of the measurements to be good. We routinely use Phares SIF Powder to make solubility and dissolution measurements in FaSSIF and FeSSIF and find it easy to work with, efficient (in both economic and temporal terms) and reproducible.” Sirius Analytical, UK
Meeting Your Volume Requirements
Phares SIF Powder yields superior results to media prepared via conventional methods. Its ease of use will save you time; its high quality will save you trouble. Ultimately, the benefits of standardization will save you money too. You can buy small amounts of SIF Powder (5.6g) for solubility testing or larger amounts (56g) for dissolution testing. We also offer a bulk pack (560g) for large scale dissolution testing. See the table above to identify the unit that matches your needs and simplifies your FaSSIF and FeSSIF preparation.
